Light-burned magnesite powder, also known as caustic calcined magnesia (CCM), is produced by heating magnesite (MgCO₃) to high temperatures, which removes carbon dioxide and produces a form of magnesium oxide (MgO). This material has several important applications:

Application of magnesium oxide for gas & flue treatment in refractory materials:

Lining Materials: Calcined magnesia is used in the production of refractory bricks and linings. These materials are crucial in high-temperature processes, such as in steelmaking and cement kilns, due to their ability to withstand extreme heat and corrosive environments.

Foundries:Calcined magnesia is also used in foundry applications to create molds and linings that can endure molten metal temperatures.

Application of sintered magnesium oxide in construction:

Cement: Magnesium oxide derived from light-burned magnesite is used in some specialized cements, including magnesium oxychloride cement and magnesium phosphate cement. These cements are valued for their quick setting times and strength.

Fireproofing: Magnesium oxide for wastewater treatment can be used in fire-resistant building materials, such as boards and panels, due to its thermal stability.
